During National Poetry Month, we thought it would be good to touch base with William Jay Smith, one of our country's leading poets for young people. His first book of poems for children, Laughing Time, has remained in print since it was first published in 1955. We spoke with Mr. Smith while he was autographing his work at a crowded bookstore and asked him about his career, what lead him to become a writer and the first work he wrote.
